SUSD Public High School Survey

All Amos Alonzo Stagg High Alumni, over 23 years of age, are invited to participate in a survey of graduates of Stockton’s public high schools (SUSD). Chavez Principal Will Nelson is studying educational outcomes as part of his doctoral dissertation, and needs to find as many participants as possible. Your participation will allow him to analyze the effectiveness of SUSD’s educational programs for Stockton’s students. The survey monkey form will require about 10 minutes to complete.

AASTAGGAA August 2016 Appeal for Donations

To all Stagg Alumni—As the current generation of Stagg students completes their first week of the 2016-2017 school year, we want to extend to you the opportunity to be part of their lives.
The A.A. Stagg High School Alumni Association collects donations from alumni and distributes funds to faculty and staff support quality education programs at Stagg. This email is our annual appeal for contributions; please write a check or go online to support our work.

We have been fortunate to have received strong support from a number of alumni, particularly in the class of 1965. In addition to these individual gifts, we want to acknowledge substantial gifts from the class of 1965 and Chase Chevrolet. Contributions have grown each year since 2010, but we can do more. Our ability to fund exceptional educational opportunities at Stagg is measured by your generosity.

Plan to join us for the 4th annual Alumni Tailgate Party at the football stadium on campus, Friday, September 16, when the Varsity and J.V. teams play Lodi. We start at 5:30. This event is sponsored by Chase Chevrolet. Come for the food and connections, stay for the games. No charge for Tailgate, but there is a charge by the Stagg athletic department to enter the stadium.
Join us as well for the Annual Meeting of the Alumni Association membership: Stagg library, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Stagg High School Alumni Association year-end report to Alumni 2016

In a few weeks, the Stagg High School Alumni Association will contact you to ask that you join our efforts to enrich the educational experience for this generation of Delta Kings. Please leave room in your August budget for a contribution to the Alumni Association.

Alumni Association Grants in 2015-2016:
The Alumni Association provided the following grants on campus in 2016:
MESA (engineering) $500 Arduino computers for prosthetic arm program
Yearbook $1200 convention costs (18 students)
Stagg Line $750 convention costs (partial hotel costs for 8)
French Club $850 bus costs—Monterrey Language Institute trip
Gay Straight alliance $200 lunches for Harvey Milk museum visit (SF)
Music department $1000 music festival (see description below)
TOTAL: $4500

The Alumni Association is working with Stagg’s teachers and staff to expand the number and reach of programs which can use our resources to enrich the educational opportunities at Stagg.

The Alumni Association Board meets monthly eleven times a year. You are welcome to attend—contact President Stewart Jacoby at staggalumni@gmail.com. Ask about joining the Board and becoming more involved.

The Alumni Board is careful with your contributions; virtually every cent given goes to campus programs. Board members often fund operating costs out of their own pockets. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; your contributions are tax deductible.

What follows is an end of year report on the Association’s work, and a snapshot of the accomplishments of Stagg students over the past year, to reconnect you to the life of our school. Stagg’s students deserve your support.

Stagg’s 2016 graduating class:

Stagg graduated 273 seniors on May 31—a 90% graduation rate. Of these, 110 were “UC Ready”, having completed all heightened requirements for acceptance to a UC or CSU program. Eighty were accepted to CSU/UC campuses; 150 have registered for fall classes at Delta College, most in the college prep track; 10 students have signed up for military service. Stagg graduates will be matriculating at Stanford University, UOP, UCLA, Cal Berkeley, Davis and other campuses. Scholarship offers to this year’s graduates totaled nearly $290,000.

Two of six scholarships awarded by the California Retired Teachers Association in San Joaquin County to “aspiring teachers” went to Stagg students. One student has been named to UOP’s Community Involvement Program (CIP), which provides full scholarship support for four years.
